The Magrath Pandas senior girls volleyball team found the going a little tough on the weekend at the 2A Alberta School Athletic Association provincial tournament.
Our Lady of Mount Pleasant Catholic School in Camrose played host to the event, which saw the Vauxhall Queens eventually take the gold medal.
Magrath did not advance out of pool play, as the Pandas went 1-4 in match play in the Red Pool.
The team’s lone win was a 25-14-, 25-19 victory over Calmar.
Magrath dropped a 25-11, 25-21 decision to Peace River, fell 25-19, 20-25, 15-8 to Christ the King and lost a 25-18, 25-16 match to Rundle College. The host team from Camrose also defeated the Pandas, by scores of 25-18, 26-24.
With volleyball season over, the focus now shifts to basketball, as the Raymond Comets and Magrath Zeniths boys teams will kick off the Southern Alberta High School Basketball League Tuesday night. Raymond will host the Chinook Coyotes at 8 p.m., while Magrath will head to Cardston for an 8 p.m. tilt. The junior varsity games will go at 6 p.m.
