A familiar face in local newspaper circles in southern Alberta over the past decade, journalist and author Stan Ashbee has launched a new literary collection for 2020.

“Memoirs of a Discontent” is an eclectic work of poetry, prose, satire, and sarcasm. This brand new 2020 chapbook is available to purchase as a Kindle Edition e-book on Amazon.

A chapbook is a small collection of poetry, generally no more than 40 pages, that often centers on a specific theme. In early modern Europe a chapbook was a type of printed street literature.

Ashbee was a reporter/photographer for the Taber Times/Vauxhall Advance a decade ago, then served as the long-time editor of the Sunny South News in Coaldale, and most recently as editor of the Westwind Weekly News in Raymond – Magrath.

“From the abyss of one man’s mind during a global pandemic, a plethora of poetry, prose, satire, and sarcasm is finally born,” said Ashbee. “Sitting stagnant for decades and hidden deep in the back of a closet with other literary concoctions, this collection will indeed haunt your psyche, possibly soothe your soul, and will leave you wanting more — salivating like Pavlov’s dog.”

Ashbee has previously self-published two collections of poetry, is a singer/songwriter with several collections of original songs, and an accomplished entertainment journalist. He currently resides in southern Alberta, Canada.
