Improvements to be complete by next year

In an attempt to improve the Garden City Senior’s Centre in Magrath, the association applied for a Community Facility Enhancement Program grant, which would allow them to make upgrades to their parking lot and men’s restroom.

“We are glad the government gave it to us and we appreciate the grant to keep the building modern and up-to-date,” said President of the association Art Bullock.

However due to the date when the 50/50 matching grant was receive improvements to the parking lot will have to wait until next Spring to begin, as it’s too cold to make any changes now.

“We got the cheque a week ago from Wade Alston (Chief Administrative Officer) and he got it from the government . . . it’s too cold to do any of the parking lot, so we will have to wait until Spring,” Bullock explained.

Parking lot upgrades will undoubtedly fix some of the “rough” patches, as well as make improvements to the men’s bathroom, more specifically the urinals. The grant totaled $8,200 and was presented to the association by Associate Minister of Municipal Affairs Greg Weadick last week.

“The urinals will have to wait until we get in touch with a plumber in the next week or so and see when he wants to, or can do something, so nothing is started yet,” he said of the progress to date. “My guess is everything will be done by April, as soon as it’s warm enough to get out and do it, we will have it done, as long as they are available.”
