Raymond’s public library, which is located at town hall, is seeking to expand its office space.
Manager Faye Geddes presented the library’s proposal to town council at its July 3 meeting.
Geddes was unable to respond to request for comment by press time.
Heggie named council’s representative to RRPSSC
Council passed three motions in support of the Ridge Regional Public Safety Services Committee’s transformation into a commission.
The RRPSSC provides regional municipal policing within each of its member communities through the work of peace officers.
Coun. Ken Heggie will be Raymond’s representative on the commission’s board, which has a member each from Raymond, Magrath, the County of Warner, Town of Milk River and Village of Stirling.
Councillors Craig Godlonton and Matthew Foss represent Magrath and Stirling, respectively.
Raymond town council also passed the RRPSSC business plan, and a bylaw that deals with the fees and costs charged for the peace officers’ services.
According to the business plan, the peace officers’ “job is to watch over the community and ensure that all provincial statutes and municipal bylaws are followed, updated and explained.”
The Town of Raymond declined request for further comment.
Volunteer policy passed
Council also passed its policy for promoting volunteerism for special events in town.
The Council Committee and Special Events Volunteer Policy’s purpose is to “enhance the town’simage and reputation as a socially responsible organization that supports volunteers … and to encourage greater citizen engagement and citizen pride,” according to documents provided by town administration.
The policy includes an application form, where potential volunteers are asked to list up to four committee vacancies that they would like to fill.
There’s also a website with special events that require volunteers, such as last weekend’s Raymond Stampede, which lists how many positions need to be filled and when the event is.
Raymondites interested in flexing their volunteer muscles can visit https://www.volunteersignup.org/JK7FM.
