The Raymond Comets advanced to the Football Alberta 5A provincial semifinal with a dominant weekend win.
Raymond, ranked No. 2 in Alberta, took out the province’s No. 7 ranked team, Calgary’s St. Francis Browns, by a score of 29-10.
One week after a dramatic come-from-behind win over the Lethbridge Collegiate Rams, the Comets left nothing to chance this time with a 19-point victory.
The win sets up a game with another Calgary powerhouse, the Notre Dame Pride. Notre Dame comes into the game as the No. 3 ranked team in Alberta, after a big 41-7 win over the Salisbury Sabres.
Going into last week’s quarterfinals, Salisbury sat in the No. 6 spot in the rankings.
Raymond will host the 5A semifinal contest, with kickoff set for Saturday at 1 p.m. at Victoria Sports Park.
No. 1 Harry Ainlay will take on No. 4 Ernest Manning in the other semi. Ainlay cruised past Red Deer’s Notre Dame Cougars by a score of 47-7, while Manning earned a 31-10 victory over LCI.
So far this season, Ainlay is the only team that has been able to defeat Raymond, as the Titans downed the Comets way back in the season opener.
On the bantam football side of things, both the Magrath Zeniths and the Raymond Comets fell in their respective Tier 1 semifinal games.
The Leduc Ti-Cats scored a 31-12 victory over Magrath, while the Airdrie Raiders defeated Raymond by a score of 49-21.
Airdrie ended up as provincial champions with a 49-21 win over Leduc last weekend.
