A student from Stirling School is being recognized for excellence both on the court and in career education.

Blake Rasmussen, a Grade 12 student-athlete from Stirling School in Westwind School Division, has been named the 2026 South Zone recipient of the School Sport Alberta (SSA) Legacy/RAP Scholarship. The scholarship recognizes student-athletes who successfully balanced participation in high school athletics while also completing Alberta’s Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) during their high school years.

Presented by School Sport Alberta, the award celebrates students who demonstrate dedication, leadership, work ethic, and a commitment to contributing positively to their communities.

In a congratulatory message from School Sport Alberta, Rasmussen was recognized as a student-athlete who has shown the qualities the scholarship was designed to honour.

“This scholarship recognizes student athletes like yourself who played a high school sport and participated in RAP during their years of high school. We are appreciative to have individuals like yourself who we know will continue to positively contribute to their communities in years to come.”

Stirling School principal Ingeborg Pot shared that the school was excited to hear the news that Rasmussen had received the scholarship and welcomed the recognition of his accomplishments in athletics and RAP programming.

Balancing athletics with apprenticeship learning requires discipline, perseverance, and strong time management skills. Through both sport and RAP programming, students gain valuable experiences that help prepare them for future careers and continued success after high school.
