On May 6, Village of Stirling Council was quite busy and involved, Council giving attention to several important matters including the following:
Acknowledgments
During the May 6, Village of Stirling Council meeting, Council recognized May 3 to 9, 2026 as the 57th Annual National Municipal Clerks Week, and extended gratitude and appreciation for the work the Village of Stirling’s Municipal Clerks contributed to the wellness of the community.
Council also recognized local Bronwyn Walk as the Lions Clubs Citizen of the Month, stating that the honour is in response to her contributions, community spirit, and the positive impact that her work has had on the Village.
In addition to that, Council also offered thanks to the Stirling Soccer Board for their support of soccer in the community, as their work enables recreational opportunities to be available for youth and families along with the positive qualities it teaches those who get involved.
Council also acknowledged that May 4, 2026, was International Firefighters Day, and expressed appreciation for the Stirling Fire Department and the work they do protecting the community.
Council also gave thanks to those who contributed to the success of the Raymond Honoured Guest Party in Raymond, and to the success of the school play, James and the Giant Peach, that was recently held at Stirling School.
Delegations
Later in the meeting, Council welcomed David Cocks of FWBA Architects and a presentation he made to Council on behalf of the Stirling Lions Club about preserving and restoring the Stirling National Historic Site Interpretive Centre. In his presentation to Council, Cocks emphasized the importance of the kiosk to the community’s National Historic site designation, the community’s identity, street activation initiatives, and also emphasized the tourism opportunities that could stem from the centre’s restoration. Cocks also explained to Council that the site’s restoration would include improvements to the exterior and interpretive displays, lighting, landscaping, and additional amenities available for public use. On top of that, the Lions Club also reiterated their emotional and financial support of the project alongside other community partners. Ultimately, Council elected to acquire a motion to direct Administration to proceed with a ‘condition assessment,’ which was mentioned in the Lions Club presentation about the site, and having FWBA Architects take on the assessment in conjunction with the Village’s Public Works team, and including local tradesmen, and other specialists as needed. Councillor Norris made the motion and it was carried.
Other delegations at the meeting were Jack Hicken, who wished to request a reduction of his property taxes due to the fact that his land cannot be developed and is only used for agricultural purposes. Ultimately, Deputy Mayor Maynes made the motion that Council move to reduce the municipal portion of the 2026 property tax assessment for the land in question, Lots 1-4, Block 43, Plan 752J by 50 per cent of the current amount owed for 2026. The motion was carried.

Councillor Davis then made a motion to direct Administration to begin the lengthy process of relocating operations offices to 10 229 – 4th Avenue, to facilitate Operations and Administration’s ability to work in the same building, and also increase training capacity for water safety courses offered at the local pool. The motion was carried.
