FCSS has multiple course offerings this fall

amily and Community Support Services (FCSS) is offering a variety of courses throughout the County of Warner this fall.

“These free and low-cost, community-focused programs provide children, families, and individuals with opportunities to learn practical life skills, build social connections, and become more involved in their communities,” said Stacey Maynes, family support worker with FCSS. 

The courses, Maynes says, include instruction in baking, organizing, language, crafting, babysitting, wood craft, quilting, sewing, pottery, and sewing.

WaterColour Made Easy courses will be taught by Eliza Yawney on:

October 7 at the Milk River Civic Centre from 1 to 3 p.m. and will cost $15 per person.

October 29 at Stirling FCSS from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will cost $15 per person.

November 19 at Stirling FCSS from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will cost $15 per person. 

Childcare will be available on October 29 and November 19, Maynes added, and the registration deadline for all three courses will be one week prior to the class day.

The baking classes, Maynes continued, will be taught by Kathy Mogg at The Little Bakery in Stirling from 7 to 9 p.m. on October 7 and will cost $55 per person, November 27 and will cost $45 per person, and December 9 and will cost $55 per person.

Baking classes will also be offered at the Milk River Civic Centre from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on November 21, Maynes said, with the cost being $40 per person and the registration deadline being one week prior to the start of class.

Organizing 101, Maynes also said, will be taught by Jackie Fiorino on October 21 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Stirling FCSS. The same course, Maynes said, will also be taught from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Milk River Civic Centre. Registration is free, Maynes added, but must be done by October 19.

Basic Spanish will be taught by Margarita Penner from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Coutts Civic Centre from October 7 to November 4, Maynes went on to say. The course is free to register for but the registration deadline is one week prior to the course starting.

Wrentham County Crafters will be overseeing Community Crafting Club sessions from September 17 to 19, October 15 to 17, and will also be offered on November 19 to 21 in the meeting room at the Wrentham Fire Department and it will cost $10 per day to participate in the activity, Maynes said.

On October 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Loni Snow will be teaching a babysitting course at Luc’s Diner in Raymond from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for youths 11 to 15 years of age. The course will involve basic first aid and caregiving skills training, and it costs $65 per person, with the deadline to register being one week prior to the start of the course.

Wood Craft Classes will be taught by Mackenzie Binning at:

Milk River Civic Centre on September 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. The course fee, Maynes says, is $40 per person for one project and $30 per person for the other project.

Coutts Library on October 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. The course fee, Maynes says, is $30 for one project and $38 for the other project.

Stirling FCSS on October 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. The course fee, Maynes says, is $30 per person for one project and $40 for the other project.

Stirling FCSS on November 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. The course fee, Maynes says, is $35 for one project and $30 for the other one.

Coutts Library on November 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. The course fee, Maynes says, is $30 for each project.

Warner FCSS on November 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. The course fee, Maynes says, is $30 for each project.

Milk River Civic Centre on December 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. The course fee, Maynes says, is $30 for one project and either $42 or $22 for the project depending on what participants use in the craft.

A free Quilting Club will be hosted at Stirling Community Centre for free from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 9, September 23, October 14, November 18, November 25, and December 9. 

Beginning sewing classes, Maynes says, will be hosted by Svenja of Sew Sassy at:

Warner FCSS from 6 to 9 p.m. on September 29 for a fee of $49 per person.

Milk River Civic Center on October 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for a fee of $45 per person, plus $20 for wool. 

A sewing course will also be held at Stirling FCSS on December 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. for a fee of $45 per person, plus $20 for material, Maynes says.

Stirling Community Centre, Maynes says, will also play host to an inaugural quilting retreat from October 28 to 31 for a fee of $110 with the registration deadline being September 30.

An Intro to Pottery course will be taught by Naomi Wendorff on September 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. in Raymond and on October 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. in Milk River. Each course, Maynes says, will cost $49 per person. The course, Maynes says, will also be offered on November 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. in Raymond and on November 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. in Milk River.
