Under the Friday-night lights, the Raymond Comets took care of business last week in a showdown at the University of Lethbridge against the Catholic Central Cougars,

Raymond scored early and often to put the game out of reach, as the Comets cruised to a convincing 56-0 victory.

“We tried to spread the touchdowns around,” said Comets head coach Connor Ralph. “A lot of players played well.”

As the final outcome was never really in doubt, Raymond was able to dig deep into the team’s roster and get a number of different players on the field.

“We made sure to get everyone in the game and build for the playoffs,” said Ralph, who added Khyrum Boehme, Jace Ralph, Tommy Walburger, Kohlman Blackmore and Dax Helgenson had big games for his team.

This week, Raymond will prepare for a Friday home game against Medicine Hat High School, with kickoff set for 5 p.m.

After that, only an Oct. 30 game against Lethbridge Collegiate Institute remains on the schedule, before provincial quarterfinals get underway.

With that in mind, Ralph added his team has one goal in mind with the October slate of games coming to an end.

“We will try to stay healthy and hopefully keep improving for November football.”

Last week’s win keeps Raymond in the No. 3 spot in the Football Alberta 5A rankings, behind only 8-0 Harry Ainlay and 7-1 Salisbury.
