Charges of sexual exploitation against a southern Alberta high school teacher have been adjourned for three weeks while the accused’s lawyer reviews disclosure on the case.
Calgary lawyer Steve Eichler appeared in Lethbridge court Tuesday and said he had only recently received disclosure and was discussing the file with the Crown.
Eichler represents Jentry Jack Salmon, who was suspended from teaching at Raymond High School last October following allegations that a teacher was having inappropriate interactions with a student through text messages, and engaging in inappropriate conduct outside of school.
Salmon, 33, who was also a girls’ basketball coach, is charged with two counts of sexual exploitation under Section 153(1) of the Criminal Code.
RCMP learned of the allegations last October, and after an investigation, charged Salmon Feb. 17.
Salmon was suspended in October, according to a statement posted on the Westwind School Division website. The website states the school division conducted its own investigation into the matter until RCMP began its criminal investigation.
The matter is back in court May 2.
