The Raymond Comets scored a big upset win Friday night at home.
Facing the previously unbeaten Cardston Cougars, Raymond’s offence was in high gear, as the Comets took a thrilling 94-91 victory on home court.
Shae Gibb led Raymond with 25 points, while Jeter Heggie added 20. Payson Hill’s 15 points were complimented by 14 from Boston Harker.
Cardston took the junior varsity game, however, as the visitors left town with an 86-56 win. Reuben Balrdy led Raymond with 13, while West James had nine and Konner Kanyo and Kolten Bevans had eight each.
Raymond’s hot streak ended Saturday, however, as the LCI Rams rolled into Raymond and took a 105-95 win, despite a huge 37-point effort from Gibb. Heggie added 26 and Harker chipped in with 12.
LCI also won the JV game, 82-55, as Hayden Greep led Raymond with 14, James added 12 and Izaak Long scored 10.
Raymond will not play again in league competition until Feb. 22, when Medicine Hat comes to town.
Magrath’s Zeniths also scored a big win at home on Friday, with an 83-76 win over Catholic Central. Mason Stock scored 25 for the home side, while Cody Tollestrup had 18 and Colton Finck added 11.
The Zeniths also won the JV game by a score of 61-54, led by Chayse Harris and his 21 points. Joseph Van Bruggen added 18.
Saturday did not go according to plan, as Magrath fell 96-48 to unbeaten Medicine Hat. Stock was Magrath’s only double-digit scorer, with 13 points.
Magrath fared better in the JV game, but still fell 81-70, despite 21 points from Mac Strong. Harris added 11, as did Espen Steffenson.
The Zeniths will take to the court Feb. 23, when Magrath will host Raymond.
In girls play, Raymond dropped it first league game on the year, in an 88-69 loss on Saturday to the LCI Clippers. Saige Gibb scored 16, Taylor Graves added 14 and Taylor Ralph and Kyla Bohne added 11 each. Kelby Terry scored 10.
LCI also took the JV game, 62-47, as Bella Zaremba scored 12 for the Comets.
Raymond will take on Cardston next on Feb. 5.
Magrath’s Pandas kept the team’s perfect league record intact with a 76-61 win Saturday over Medicine Hat. Montana Berezay had 22, Lauren Payne added 21 and Ellie Wilde had 11.
Medicine Hat won the JV game in a tight 53-50 contest, as Carly Blackmore led Magrath with 14 and Thandie Kauro added 12.
The Pandas took on the LCI Clippers on Wednesday (score unavailable at press time), and then face Taber’s W.R. Myers on Feb. 6.
Magrath will also compete in this weekend’s Lethbridge Collegiate Institute Green and Gold Tournament. The team’s first game is set for Friday at 1 p.m. against Western Canada. A win in that game would put the Pandas in Saturday’s 2 p.m. semifinal.
