According to Ross Jensen, secretary for the Raymond Rotary, funds from this year’s dinner and dance will go towards furnishings for the new seniors lodge in Raymond — slated for completion later this year.
“The furnishings for the new seniors lodge is our 2019 major project. There is a very high need for the furnishings funds for the new Ridgeview Lodge,” Jensen noted.
Jensen added furnishings for the new lodge is a very good cause to donate money towards and as such, donations have been rather steady. The Rotarians, however, also hope to significantly increase the level of donations to where all the furnishings are paid for.
Val Boehme, president of the Raymond Rotary, added the profits from the Rotary’s charitable fundraising are also supporting the middle school on the Blood Reserve. The focus of that project, Boehme said, “Is to assist youth in giving service to their community.” The project itself is a joint venture of the Rotary Club of Raymond and the “Live Like Lilli Foundation” — with matching grants from Rotary District 5360.
“Raymond and district people are known for their generosity and willingness to support good causes,” said Jensen, adding at least 200 tickets were sold.
“We strive to have an enjoyable evening. Steady attendance over the years indicates folks have had a good time supporting this event over the years,” according to Jensen. “The Raymond 4-H Club is also assisting the Rotary Club this year,” Jensen said. “In past years, other local student groups have been very valuable helpers. Because our Rotary club is small in numbers, the participation of a second service group is very much appreciated.”
Jensen said the event featured a roast beef dinner followed by a program and dancing to music provided by the live band Fast Times. There was also a silent auction featuring items donated by local businesses and individuals.
“All the members of the local Raymond Rotary Club are heavily involved in the dinner and dance and all other club service projects,” Jensen said. “Rotary is wonderful. It is great to be involved in such an honourable club known around the world for its good accomplishments. We welcome new members to the Raymond Rotary Club. Come and see what a great club it truly is.”
