Prior to the Town of Vauxhall Council Meeting on October 21, the Organizational Meeting was held.
Organizational Meeting
During the Organizational Meeting, Mayor Kimberly Cawley was reappointed Mayor, and Councillor Marilyn Forchuk was appointed Deputy Mayor.
As a result of the Organizational Meeting, all of the committees were also reorganized and now contain the following members effective October 21, 2024.
Municipal Planning Commission: Deputy Mayor Forchuk, Councillor Zacharias, Councillor Norris.
Chinook Intermunicipal Subdivision Division & Development Appeal Board: Mayor Cawley, Councillor Dorin (Alternate).
Taber Regional Joint Economic Development Committee: Mayor Cawley, Councillor Deleeuw.
SouthGrow: Councillor Zacharias, Councillor Dorin (Alternate).
Regional Assessment Review Board: Councillor Norris.
Vauxhall Public Library Board: Councillor Deleeuw, Deputy Mayor Forchuk.
Chinook Arch Library Board: Deputy Mayor Forchuk.
Taber & District Solid Waste Management Committee: Mayor Cawley, Deputy Mayor Forchuk.
Taber & District Housing Foundation: Councillor Norris.
Vauxhall & District Regional Water Services Commission: Councillor Norris, Richard Phillips (Member at Large).
Oldman River Regional Services Commission (ORRSC): Councillor Norris.
Protective Services Committee: Councillor Deleeuw.
Vauxhall Regional Fire Authority: Deputy Mayor Forchuk, Councillor Henry Zacharias.
Inter-municipal Development Authority (as required): Councillor Norris, Deputy Mayor Forchuk.
Vauxhall Emergency Advisory Committee: All of Council.
Vauxhall & District Chamber of Commerce: Councillor Deleeuw, Mayor Cawley (Alternate).
Policy, Bylaw and Rate Committee: Deputy Mayor Forchuk, Councillor Dorin.
Public Information Officer-Emergency Management Plan: Mayor Cawley.
Barons-Eureka-Warner FCSS: Councillor Deleeuw
Pheasant Festival Committee: Mayor Cawley.
Inter-municipal Collaboration Committee: Mayor Cawley, Councillor Deleeuw.
Veterans Memorial Highway Association: Councillor Norris.
Vauxhall Business and Tourism Committee: Councillor Deleeuw, Councillor Dorin.
Vauxhall Community Center Advisory Committee: Mayor Cawley, Councillor Dorin.
Vauxhall Ag Society: Councillor Zacharias, Councillor Deleeuw (Alternate).
Motions were made to appoint all to each committee and all motions were carried.
Fortis Alberta Franchise Fee
Council discussed the local access fee percentage charged to Fortis Alberta for use of municipal lands for its power lines and whether or not to alter that percentage. Council also discussed how in 2021, Deputy Mayor Coad made the motion that the local access fee charged to FortisAlberta be increased to eight per cent effective January 1, 2022, and in November 2022, Deputy Mayor Cawley made the motion that the local access fee charged to FortisAlberta remain at eight per cent effective April 1, 2023. Council also discussed how in October 2023, Councillor Zacharias made the motion that the local access fee charged to FortisAlberta remain at eight percent effective January 1, 2024. Ultimately, a motion was made that the local access fee charged to FortisAlberta remains at eight per cent, and the motion was carried.
Curling Club Contract
Council discussed how they asked Administration to call a meeting with the Curling Club to discuss their contract. Ultimately, Council elected to make a motion to propose November 6 and 7, 2024, to meet with the Curling Club and the motion was carried.
Upcoming Meetings and Events Highlights
Council discussed several upcoming meetings and events, including the Veterans Memorial Highway Association meeting in Lac La Biche on October 25, the Regional Fire Authority meeting at the Fire Hall on October 30 at 7 p.m., the JEDC meeting on November 13 at 6 p.m. at the Reeve’s Room at the M.D. of Taber building, and the Water Commission Meeting on January 6, 2025, at Council Chambers at 3:30 p.m.
