Preliminary work began this month on the site for the future Lethbridge Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Crews began clearing the nine-acre property located at the corner of Whoop Up Drive West and Mauretania Road.
Approvals from the City of Lethbridge allow the church to initiate some preparatory work on the site. The first steps involve preliminary utility and grading work, including running electricity to the site and installing water and sewer lines.
Then Mauretania Road will need to be repaired in the places where connections were made to the city’s underground utilities. Workers will also be removing excess soil from the site.
The goal is to complete this work before cold winter weather arrives.
The design work on the temple is ongoing and no announcement has been made about a date for an official groundbreaking ceremony.
“We are excited for this first step in the process of building a House of the Lord in Lethbridge,” regional church leader Elder David Stewart said.
“This sacred place will be a blessing for the many Latter-day Saints in the area. We are grateful to the City of Lethbridge for their ongoing support and collaboration.”
