Magrath’s Community Christmas Choir will hold a concert on Sunday, December 15 at 6 p.m. at the Magrath Stake Centre, which is located at 21 1st Avenue SE in Magrath, and they are welcoming all to lend their voices to their choir.
“If you like to sing, you are eligible to come join us!” said Community Musical Director Karen Wood. “We hope that everyone and anyone feels welcome. You can come by yourself or come with a friend or come with your family. Those interested can just come to the church for rehearsal and sign up there. Even though rehearsals have begun, we welcome anyone who wishes to join!”
Rehearsals, Wood says, started on November 17 at the Magrath Stake Centre and are also on November 24, December 1, and December 8. All of the rehearsals run from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Wood says.
On the day of the concert, Wood says, the choir will begin singing Christmas carols at the church beginning at 5:45 p.m. People, Wood says, are encouraged to come to the venue early if they want to participate in the carol sing-along.
The choir, Wood says, is going to be performing two songs this year at the actual concert: “Let There Be Christmas” by Joseph Martin and “Caroling, Caroling” by Alfred Burt.
“Christmas is a lot of different things to many people,” said Wood. “For me, Christmas is all about the music! Some of the most beautiful songs ever composed are about the wondrous story of Christ’s birth!”
The program, Wood says, could also use a few additional numbers if other people are interested in putting a musical number together, whether it be a solo number, a family number, or a group number.
“If you are looking for something meaningful and enjoyable to do with your family this Christmas Season, this is a wonderful option,” said Wood. “I hope the choir blesses those who participate as well as those who listen to us. I hope it adds to the joy of their Christmas celebrations. I hope it brings more unity to this amazing community of Magrath that we are lucky enough to call home!”
