A Friday trip to Calgary proved fruitful for the Raymond Comets, as the high school football team improved to 2-1 on the year with a second consecutive win.
Raymond put together a solid performance in the teams first road game of the 2025 campaign and emerged with a 35-7 win over Centennial.
Just like last week’s win over Ross Sheppard, it was another big game through the air for the Comets offence, as quarterback Walker Gibb threw five touchdown passes. Brody Beazer hauled in two of those scores.
Head coach Connor Ralph added his team also came to play on the other side of the ball.
The defence mostly did well,” he said. “Cayden Wendorff had some very nice plays.”
The coach went on to say he was pleased with his team’s overall effort but as always, there is room for improvement.
“We were balanced on O and D which was good,” said Ralph. “We need to be more consistent every play.”
With a second-straight victory for the Comets, Raymond will now prepare for a Friday-night game at 7 p.m. back at home against the Holy Trinity Academy Knights.
“They are always a well-coached team with lots of talent,” said Ralph.
“We are looking forward to the challenge.”
Friday’s game will see the No. 2 ranked team in Football’s Alberta’s Week Two Power Rankings, Raymond, up against the No. 1 team in the 4A rankings, Holy Trinity.
The Knights will head south with a 3-0 record, after a 17-7 win over the Medicine Hat Hawks, the No. 5 ranked team in 4A.
Raymond only trails one team in the 5A rankings, 3-0 Harry Ainlay, as the Titans cruised past St. Joseph’s by a score of 45-6 in last week’s action.
