Updates to major dam near Havre will go ahead after contracts awarded

Contracts have been awarded to update a major dam site on the Milk River in Montana.

The Fresno Dam, located about 20 kilometres west of Havre, will be reinforced beginning in April after it was determined to have settled by up to 10 feet since it was constructed in 1939. The base of the 110-foot-tall dam will be shored up and a new toe-drain system will be installed. The reservoir can hold up to 92,000 acre feet of water.

NW Construction, of Billings, was awarded the US$43-million contract by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation last month.
