Kaitlynn Weaver, Outreach Services Supervisor for Family and Community Support Services (FCSS), says that FCSS is pleased to be offering a wide variety of General Interest Courses in the County of Warner.
“The purpose of these courses is to educate, train, and entertain!” said Weaver.
The courses, Weaver says, are designed and offered by local County of Warner residents, and they are available to anyone who is interested in learning a new skill or making new friends.
“There’s truly something for everyone!” said Weaver.
Weaver says that the courses FCSS has to offer those in the County of Warner include a Thai Cooking Class that will be taught by Jessica Tatlow starting on September 11 and will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stirling Community Centre and registration for the course costs $50 and there must be a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 registrants.
Another course FCSS will offer, Weaver says, will be a free Crochet Club taught by Inger Schaufer on Wednesday September 25, October 23, and November 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Stirling Library.
Intro to Wood Crafting: Fall and Home Décor, Weaver says, will also be taught by Cariss from Birch and Blossom on October 5, October 19, November 16, and November 23 with all classes except for the one on November 16 being held at the Stirling Community Centre and the course on November 16 being held at the Warner Library. Each class, Weaver says, will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the registration fee will be $35 per projects with no refunds being available after the registration deadline of October 12.
Baking basics taught by Neil Wickwire, Weaver says, will also be taught by Neil Wickwire on Wednesday September 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stirling Community Centre. Weaver says the course costs $40 and the deadline to register is September 11.
Weaver says that Watercolour basics taught by Eliza Yawney is another course that FCSS will be offering on Friday, September 27 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Stirling Community Centre and the fee is $50 while the registration deadline is September 23.
A babysitting course taught by Loni Snow, Weaver says, will also be offered on Monday, September 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Seniors Centre at the Stirling Community Centre and the registration fee is $65 per person and a minimum of 12 registrants is required for the course to run.
To register in the courses that FCSS has to offer those in the County of Warner, Weaver says, people are welcome to call or text Stacey Maynes at 403-756-3572 or email her at Stacey.Maynes@fcss.ca. Weaver says that those who are interested in becoming an instructor for a course can also contact Stacey Maynes.
More information about each course including their fees, dates, locations, and times, Weaver says can be found on FCSS’s website: http://www.fcss.ca/general-interest-courses/, and FCSS has a full slate of courses this fall, with even more becoming available this winter.
“The courses are a great way for people to get involved in their community,” said Weaver. “There are plenty of people in the area with important knowledge to pass along, and the courses also offer opportunities for locals to learn new skills without having to travel into the city. It’s all about utilizing the skills available right in the community.”
