Local golfers make the cut

Pincher Creek’s Ethan Choi shot a secondround 73 at the Alberta Men’s Amateur Championship last week in Medicine Hat.

Choi cut seven strokes off his first-round 80 on July 21 and now sits at 11-over 153 to sit tied for 54th place and earned the right to play July 23 with the projected cut set at 12-over.

That’s what Henderson Lake’s Justin Nagy and Jesse Sawyer of the Picture Butte Golf Club shot after rounds of 76 on July 22.

Lethbridge’s Darin Bertschi carded a 79 on July 22 to finish at 14-over 156, as did Magrath’s Paxton Maxwell, who shot 77.

Brett Sheridan of Lethbridge posted a 79 to sit at 16-over, while Ryan O’Donnell was one stroke back with an 82 on July 22.

Magrath’s Russell Maxwell shot 83 in his second round to finish 20-over and Brian Dawydiuk of the Picture Butte Golf Club was 22-over after a score of 81 on July 22.
