Cardston-Taber-Warner MLA Grant Hunter presented a $45,000 cheque to Magrath Coun. Brian Oliver and treasurer Liz Davidson at the town hall on May 9.
The funds are part of the provincial community initiatives grant, which in this case will go towards a new Magrath Senior Handibus, which provides round trips around Magrath, as well as to Raymond and Lethbridge.
The town will be matching the provincial funds for a total of $90,000, which Oliver said should cover most if not all of the cost of the new bus.
Oliver emphasized that the service is not solely for senior citizens.
“It is for all Magrath residents who need the transportation services,” he said.
The town is required to file a statement of accounting with the province when the project is completed, or within 18 months.
“We’ll have it done long before then,” said Oliver.
