James Suffredine, the chief administrative officer of the Town of Magrath, stated that the Town of Magrath’s annual Remembrance Day ceremony will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at the Magrath Senior Centre, located at 32 North 1st Street West, beginning at 10:15 a.m.
The Remembrance Day ceremony is organized by the Town of Magrath with the generous assistance of community volunteers and is very much a collaborative event with many giving of their time to help coordinate the event.
“The easiest and most meaningful way to participate is to attend,” explained Suffredine. “Residents of all ages are able to come together as a community to pay their respects to those who have served and sacrificed for our country.”
The program is expected to include opening remarks, the singing of O Canada, prayers or reflections, guest speakers, a rendition of In Flanders Fields by local elementary school students, two minutes of silence at 11:00 a.m., and a laying of wreaths.
“Magrath has a longstanding tradition of recognizing Remembrance Day and honouring those who have served our country,” said Suffredine. “Like many small Canadian communities, Magrath has many families whose histories have been touched by military service and the sacrifices associated with war. The ceremony provides an opportunity for residents to reflect on the sacrifices made by Canadian service members and the importance of remembering their contributions.”
Suffredine stressed that the Town encourages everyone in Magrath to take time on Nov. 11 to remember.
“We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to those who have served, those who continue to serve, and the families who have supported them,” said Suffredine. “I believe Remembrance Day is one of the most important occasions we recognize as a community. It is far too easy to take for granted the freedoms, security, and opportunities we all enjoy as Canadians. Remembrance Day is about recognizing the sacrifices that have shaped our country and ensuring that future generations understand the significance of that sacrifice.”
