On Tuesday, the County of Warner received nearly $580,000 through the Strategic Transportation and Infrastructure Program to assist in the much-needed replacement of two culverts to improve the county’s roadway network.

“Rural Alberta’s transportation network connects residents to communities and services, supports the province’s tourism, and provides access to natural resources for the oil and gas, forestry, and agricultural industries. As such, a safe and viable rural road and bridge network is key to supporting the provincial economy. The County of Warner currently maintains over 100 bridge files and over 2000 kilometres of road as part of this vital network. Much of this infrastructure was initially developed in the 1960’s, and successful long-term asset management planning will require guaranteed support from the provincial government though programs such as this,” said Reeve Randy Taylor. “Through continued collaborative initiatives between the province and rural municipalities, which reflect local, provincial, and industrial needs, we are hopeful that we can rehabilitate and maintain the aging infrastructure of the transportation network to support a prosperous economy.”

Alberta’s government is providing $179.5 million in grants across Alberta to support 122 road, bridge, community airport and water projects, intended to grow the economy and create jobs.

“The contribution from Alberta’s government will help the residents of the County of Warner travel more freely through the area with faster and safer commutes,” said Taber-Warner MLA Grant Hunter. “This support from the province represents the Government of Alberta’s commitment to supporting the growing prosperity of rural Alberta.
