Stirling town council minutes

The following are selected minutes from the June 7 regular meeting of Stirling town council. 

Recognition:

Stirling council took the beginning of the meeting to celebrate eight members from the Stirling Fire Department who decided to take time away from the town to fight fires up in the Yellowhead County region. Council acknowledged the hard work of the firefighters who served under three rotations. Interim Chief Marv Birky, Captain Sean Faweett, Captain Leon Steeiw, Captain Brant Tidmarsh, Firefighter Cody Mrak, Firefighter Blair Pyke, Firefighter Daniel Rose, and Firefigther Andre Thibaudeau.

Council also extended their recognition to Brennan and Aletta Lightfoot for their work with the community garage sale. 

Items for Discussion:

Council received an item to approve the firefighter compensation to be the whole amount listed in the Alberta Wildfire Deployment Guide. Council further directed administration to return with a policy on the financial management of future fire department deployments. 

Council also received an item to approve a fleet replacement plan for the use of their garbage truck reserve. The vote was requested to be recorded – only Coun. Matthew Foss voted in opposition.

Over the summer it was decided to keep the regular council meeting and Municipal Planning Commission meeting on their regular date, July 5 while the council meeting for July 19 would be cancelled. Further it was decided to keep Aug. 2 the date of the regular council meeting while cancelling the meeting on August 16. 

Council received Policies AR 03-20 and AR 07-23 at their regular meeting. Council directed administration to amend policy AR 03-20 Investment and Surplus Management Policy. Policy AR 07-23 would be changed to reflect the changes from a garbage truck reserve to a fleet management reserve. 

Additionally council received a report on the rural water system. Council decided to accept the report as information and direct no applications to be brought forward once the three remaining connections are fulfilled.
