Raymond U13 hockey team has big weekend to improve to 5-1-1

Tiering play continued this weekend for local teams in the Central Alberta Hockey League.

Raymond’s U 11 squad picked up a tie and a loss, which started off Saturday with a 6-6 game against Medicine Hat. Cooper Rodeback had five goals to lead the way for Raymond, while Houston Hill picked up three assists. Brixden Manning had a goal and an assist. Jordan Schmidt and Remington Jardine split goaltending duties.

On Sunday, Irvine posted an 11-3 win over Raymond, as Rodeback scored two more times in the loss. Hill had the other Raymond goal. Klay Koopmans and Jesse Wilde had assists. Jardine and Schmidt once again both tended net for Raymond.

Magrath’s U11 team had a tough weekend that started Friday with an 11-2 loss to Vauxhall. Gibson Bates and Kacey Blackmore had the goals, as Grayson Owens added one assist. Tymen Allsop was in net for Magrath, as he faced 75 shots in the contest.

Allsop was busy the next game as well, as he made 53 stops in a 7-2 loss to Redcliff. Magrath’s offence came from Bates, as he scored twice. Weston Odland had a helper.

Raymond’s U13 team is off to a 5-1-1 start after a 1-0-1 weekend that kicked off Saturday with a 5-5 tie against Brooks. Jack Patrick Salmon had two goals and Tanner Wells had a goal and an assist to pace the attack. Carter Harris and Lane Smith also scored, while Trigger Heggie and Kylan Blackwater had assists. Kalani Purcell made 33 saves in net.

On Sunday, Raymond’s offence came alive in an 11-4 win over Strathmore. Harris had six goals and one assist and Wells had two goals and one assist. Smith had two goals and Eddie Little Shields recorded a goal and an assist. Hays Hill and Kraden Heath both had two-assist efforts, while Heggie, Blackwater and Checotah May Grey Horses all had one assist each. Purcell faced 38 shots.

In the U15 division, Magrath defeated Kainai 3-1 on Saturday, thanks to 24 saves from Kohlman Blackmore and 17 stops in net from Ashton Jensen. Nixon Barnett and Beau Beier had a goal and an assist each, Bronson Ripley scored once and Tason Heath had an assist.

Magrath fell 5-4 on Sunday to High Country, as Heath scored twice, Beier added a single and Clayton Michel also scored. Easton Fraser added one assist. Blackmore stopped 24 shots and Jensen made 16 saves.

In U18 play, Magrath is 4-4 after Saturday’s 6-5 loss to Vulcan and Sunday’s 3-2 defeat at the hands of Nanton.

Against Vulcan, Gunner Sloan had three assists and Ross Ravoy scored twice, while Beckham Sugai (one goal, one assist) and Mason Mahew (two assists) also had multi-point games. Ty Godlonton and Knox Tame also scored for Magrath, as Blake Roe and Paislee Loose had assists. Conner Schneyder made 17 saves in net.

In the Nanton game, Tame scored both goals, as Sloan, Sugai, Rigin Smith and Rushton Ripley had assists. Schneyder made 22 saves in the crease.

On Saturday, the Magrath U9 Chiefs played the Pincher Creek Chinooks and came away with a 12-2 victory. The Chiefs played aggressively right from the start and scored early and often.

Leading the way was Cody Beier with six goals. Cooper Seward and Dillon Juhasz both had one goal, two assists, while Liam Stanford, Maverick Retzer, Landon Perks and Nik Wood all had one goal each. Charlie Christensen and Lukas Quapp each had one assist.
