The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women’s Basketball team and head coach Todd Warnick are pleased to announce the commitment of a skilled forward with the signing of Allison Hansen for the 2024-25 season.
“Allison brings significant calm and focus to her play while juxtaposing that with her tremendous physical play that can change the outlook of any defence,” said Warnick.
A product of the basketball hotbed that is southern Alberta, Allison is the younger sister of current WolfPack guard Grace Hansen.
“TRU got on my radar through my older sister, Grace. When her recruitment began, I became very interested in what TRU had to offer,” said Hansen. “I chose to join the ‘Pack because of TRU’s beautiful campus, the great coaching staff, having smaller class sizes, it being close to family, great campus layout, and it being an overall good fit for myself.”
Hansen jumped at the chance to reunite with her sister to play at the university level.
“Grace has been my point guard for as long as I can remember, and she is a huge part of why I love basketball,” said Hansen. “I am lucky to have a sister like her, let alone a teammate who works as hard as she does and so having another opportunity to play with her means a great deal to me.”
The 6-foot-tall physical forward brings both strength and length to the ‘Pack’s front line for the 2024-25 season.
In 2023 her Magrath Pandas captured the South Zone title from the powerhouse top-ranked Raymond Comets and Hansen was a key component of the defensive strategy that led to the Pandas hoisting the Zone banner.
Although, Hansen has been winning a lot longer than that. “In my 10th grade year, my basketball team got second in provincials and my rugby team were provincial champions. In my 11th grade year, my basketball team were zone champions and my rugby team won second in provincials,” said Hansen.
Not only a talented multi-sport athlete, Hansen is a high honours student who intends on taking pre-med courses at TRU that will eventually lead her to medical school.
WolfPack head coach Todd Warnick says, she has a “rare combination of centered presence and relentless toughness” which are “key talents that had us look at wanting to add her strengths to the ‘Pack”.
Basketball is truly a family affair for the Allison and the rest of the Hansens.
“Both my parents were former university level basketball players so I’ve been around basketball my whole life. I started becoming a more serious player in middle school where I played in the Summer Games and started to play club ball in the spring and summers.” said Hansen
As for Allison, she knows that she will be bringing a commanding presence to the ‘Pack.
“I am a strong player who will use my physicality to battle in the paint, fight to get boards, and set solid screens.”
