For the fourth year in a row, the Milk River Health Professionals Attraction and Retention Committee is offering three $250 scholarships.

“The purpose of the scholarship is to provide some financial support to local residents who are pursuing a post secondary education in a health-related field,” said Scott MacCumber, Chairperson of the Milk River Health Professionals Attraction & Retention Committee. “It also allows our committee to provide some recognition to those students pursuing a career in healthcare.”

The scholarship, MacCumber says, was created by the Milk River Health Professionals Attraction & Retention Committee, as it will help local students with their finances. MacCumber says that scholarships in past years have gone to students in Warner and Foremost.

The criteria for applying for the scholarships, MacCumber says, is that students must be graduating from either Milk River Ridge School, or Warner or Foremost, are attending post-secondary education in any health-related field, and they also must write a 1-to-2-page essay on, “What does rural health mean to me and why is it important?” Any field of study related to healthcare will be considered, MacCumber says.

The deadline to apply for the scholarshipis Friday, June 14, and all applications will be reviewed by July 12, with the recipients being notified shortly thereafter.

“I think the scholarships are a good thing and just one small way that our committee can assist the student and recognize their contribution to healthcare,” said MacCumber. “The scholarship will benefit the student in a small financial way, and it shows that our committee appreciates their choice of career.”
