The following are select briefs from the Town of Raymond Council meeting that took place on September 3.
Bylaw No. 1132-24 Road Closure – Portion of East Park Street – Third Reading
Tyler Nelson, Planning and Development Director for the Town of Raymond, reported to Council that that Bylaw No. 1132-24, Road Closure – Portion of East Park Street, received Ministerial Approval. Nelson explained that receiving the Ministerial Approval allows for consideration for second and third reading for the road closure so the Ag Building can be in compliance. A motion was promptly made to give Bylaw No. 1132-24, Road Closure – Portion of East Park Street second reading and the motion was carried and following that, a motion was made to give Bylaw No. 1132-24, Road Closure – Portion of East Park Street third reading and the motion was carried.
ATCO Franchise Renewal Agreement
Mayor Depew explained to Council that a few weeks ago, Committee discussed the ATCO Gas Franchise Renewal Agreement and how the province is working hard at changing the way the electrical and gas systems are working in the community. That said, Mayor Depew explained that ATCO asked the Town to decide if they are going to make any rate changes sooner than later, as once they go through the process of submitting a franchise agreement, no changes will be able to be made. Ultimately, following a brief discussion regarding rates, Councillor Tollestrup made a motion to direct Administration to enter into the renewed franchise agreement with ATCO Gas to leave the rate as is and the motion was carried.
Kings Coronation Medal Awards Ceremony
Mayor Depew shared with Council about the King Charles III Coronation Medal Awards Ceremony, stating that the event was to be held on Saturday, September 21 at 7 p.m. at the Broadway Theatre in Raymond, Alberta and MP Motz will be in Raymond to host the event. Mayor Depew also reported to Council that there will be eight recipients of the medal from this portion of the riding, including two from Raymond, and anyone is welcome to attend the event.
