Westwind area athletes top of Allstar heap

Basketball players from all over southern Alberta gathered at the University of Lethbridge last week to watch the Southern Alberta Allstars Games.

Both the Westwind area teams came away victors, the girls with a victory of 67 to 59 and the boys with a final score of 131 to 118.

The 4A girls light team, comprising of athletes from Kate Andrews, Magrath, Raymond, Winston Churchill and W.R. Myers, battled for the title against the dark team, which comprised of athletes from LCI, Cardston, Catholic Central, Chinook High and Medicine Hat.

Top scorers for the light team were Raymond’s Makell Hofer with 12 points, Teneshia Davison, Sunder West and Jaclyn Heggie all with 10 points and Haylee Ralph with seven.

Top scorers for the dark team were LCI’s Karli McLachlan with 14 points, Chinook High’s Alyssa Hoveling and Katie Keith both with 12 points and Medicine Hat’s Jenna Spruyt with 11.

The 4A boys dark team, coached by Raymond’s own Jack McMurray, compiled athletes from LCI, Raymond, Magrath and Winston Chruchill, while the light team was made up of players from Cardston, Catholic Central, Chinook High and Medicine Hat.

Top scorers for the boys dark team were Raymond’s Jared Heggie with 26 points, LCI’s Saren Westrop with 23 points, Magrath’s Scott Gieske with 20 points and Winston Churchill’s Shane Burdett and Mike Pierzchala both with 20 points.

Top scorers for the light team were Catholic Central’s Rory Russell with 22 points, LCI’s Zac Overwater with 20 points and Medicine Hat’s Liam Mohanraj with 20 points as well.
