Basketball season is upon us.
With the Alberta Schools Athletic Association volleyball provincials in the books, basketball is set to take centre stage next week, as the Southern Alberta High School Girls Basketball League and the Southern Alberta High School 4A Boys Basketball League are set to get underway.
It all starts Tuesday, Dec. 5, at LCI will visit the Magrath Zeniths for junior and senior-varsity boys games at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The Raymond Comets will head to Lethbridge on Tuesday to take on Catholic Central in junior and senior action, at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
In girls play, the Raymond Comets will be in Taber to take on W.R. Myers at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Wednesday, it will be the Magrath Pandas girls who will hit the court for a home game (varsity only) at 6 p.m. against Chinook High School.
It will mark a busy beginning to the season, which will culminate for southern Alberta teams with the south zone 3A girls playoffs in Medicine Hat at McCoy from March 5-10, and the south zone 4A/league JV playoffs for the boys March 5-10 at the University of Lethbridge.
Cochrane will host the 3A girls provincials March 15-17, while Medicine Hat will host the 4A boys and girls provincials March 15-17.
