Local volleyball teams hit the court last week, as the Magrath Zeniths remained unbeaten.

Last Wednesday, Magrath’s senior varsity team defeated WCHS 25-14, 25-12, 25-13 to move to 6-0 in the Southern Alberta Volleyball League standings.

The Zeniths improved that record to 7-0 with a Monday-night win over Picture Butte High School. Magrath took the match by scores of 25-15, 25-17 and 25-18.

Magrath’s JV teams moved to 5-0 with a 25-22, 25-15 win over WCHS, and followed that up with a win on Monday over Picture Butte to improve to 6-0. It was an easy night on the court for the Zeniths, as Magrath pounded Butte 25-8, 25-7.

The Magrath Pandas fell to Chinook 25-23, 19-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-13 in senior play to fall to 6-1. Both Magrath and Chinook lead the league with identical 6-1 records.

Chinook also won the JV match, 25-19, 25-19, which bumped Magrath down to 4-2 in the standings.

Raymond’s senior varsity team is also 6-1, while the Raymond JV squad leads the league at 7-0.

On the football field, Raymond sits at 6-0 in Southern Alberta Minor Football Association bantam play, after scoring a whopping 198 points in those contests.

Raymond secured first with a 33-8 win on Saturday over the Lethbridge Rams.

The Comets now prepare for the playoffs, as Raymond will host Cardston on Saturday in an 11 a.m. contest.

Raymond’s peewee team is also unbeaten, as the Comets capped off a perfect regular season with a 28-7 win last Thursday over the Lethbridge Jr. Cougars.

The high school team had a bye last week. The 2-4 Comets, ranked No. 7 in Tier 1, travel to Okotoks Friday to take on the 4-2-1 Holy Trinity Academy, the No. 6 ranked Tier 2 team in Alberta.
