Playoff action is heating up for teams in the Central Alberta Hockey League.
Raymond’s Tier 1 U11 team was in a battle with Okotoks, which began Friday with a 10-8 win at home. Jaxton Rodeback had four goals and five assists to pace Raymond, while Dax Hill had a goal and four assists. Lane Smith and Trigger Heggie both scored twice, while Stetson Nelson added a single. Kalani Purcell took the win in goal.
Saturday in Okotoks, Raymond skated to a 9-2 win, thanks to four goals and three assists from Rodeback and two goals from Hill. Cooper Rodeback had a goal and an assist, Heggie added a single and Jack Patrick Salmon scored as well for Raymond. Purcell made 23 saves in the victory.
Magrath’s U11 Tier 4 team dropped a 4-3 decision Saturday to Duchess. Gibson Bates scored twice and Payke Bates added two helpers. Jase Hansen also scored for Magrath, as Tye Veale made 24 saves in goal to keep the game close.
On Sunday, Magrath fell 8-5 to Duchess, as Owen Stanford had two goals and one assist, while Grayson Owens, Gibson Bates and Jase Hansen added single markers. Chase Ririe, Payke Bates, Riggs Hudson, Rogen Provost and Levi Zobell all had one assist each. Veale faced 52 shots in the game.
In U18 play on Friday, Magrath’s Tier 3 team defeated Lethbridge Red 8-1, as Rushton Ripley led the way with three goals and one assist. Blake Roe scored twice and Easton Olson added a goal and an assist. Kyson Johnson and Knox Tame also scored, as assists were credited to Joseph Noad, Gunner Ravoy, Beckham Sugai, Ty Romeril, Gage Nelson and Justin Chipman. Conner Schneyder made 21 saves in goal.
Saturday’s game back in Lethbridge saw Magrath leave with a 5-2 win, as Roe, Ravoy and Olson all had one goal and one assist each. Johnson also scored, as Hunter Sloan notched the other Magrath goal. Chipman also picked up an assist, while Schneyder faced 15 shots and picked up the win.
Magrath and Raymond also jointly hosted the Southern Prairies Hockey League U9 playoff tournament. Magrath’s first game was Friday night versus Fort Macleod Red. It was a close, defensive game on both sides, as Magrath came out with a 3-0 win. Goals were from Carter Juhasz, Addy Balderson and Heagan Mohr. MVP for Magrath was Maverick Retzer.
Game two was Saturday morning against Raymond. It was a hard-fought game, but with Magrath battling injuries and illness they came up short in a 6-0 loss. MVPs for Magrath were Addy Balderson and Tymen Allsop.
Saturday afternoon, Magrath faced Cardston in the third-place final. It was a one-goal game from start to finish, but at the buzzer Cardston came out on top 4-3. Magrath goals were from Weston Odland, Cooper Seward and Kacey Blackmore. Helpers came from Davyn Gillam, Andy Woolf and Addy Balderson. MVP for Magrath was Liam Stanford.
