U9 goaltender notches first career shutout as Magrath tops Raymond on the ice

Tiering play continues for local teams in the Central Alberta Hockey League.

This past weekend, the U9 Magrath Chiefs played Raymond. Magrath came out on top with an 8-0 win. Scoring for Magrath was Cody Beier with three goals and one assist, Cooper Seward with three goals, Liam Stanford with one goal two assists and Charlie Christensen with one goal. A single assist each went to Dillon Juhasz, Lukas Quapp, Maverick Retzer and Kolten Baldwin. Raylan Owens also had his first career shutout in the Magrath victory.

In the U11 category, Raymond went 1-0-1 last weekend in Tier 3 play, which started with a 6-6 tie on Saturday against Lethbridge. Cooper Rodeback had a big game with four goals and two assists for Raymond, while Brixden Manning had two goals and Houston Hill had two assists. Klay Koopmans had one assist, while Jordan Schmidt was in goal.

Sunday’s game ended with a 4-2 win over Cardston, as Rodeback led the way again with a hat trick. Max Walburger also scored. Remington Jardine posted the win on goal.

In U11 Tier 4 action, Magrath started things off Friday with a 9-2 win over Picture Butte, as Gibson Bates scored six times. Payke Bates, Carter Juhasz and Heagan Mohr added singles. Tymen Allsop was in net.

Magrath fell 7-6 on Saturday to Duchess, as Gibson Bates scored three more times and Kashton Johnson scored twice. Juhasz added the other goal, while Allsop was once again in net.

Raymond is 4-0 in U13 play after a weekend sweep which started with Saturday’s 7-2 win over Irvine, where Carter Harris recorded a hat trick. Kylan Blackwater scored twice, Lane Smith had two helpers and Trigger Heggie and Jack Patrick Salmon added singles. Nixon Sommerfeldt had one assist. Kalani Purcell made 29 saves for the win.

Sunday’s 8-7 win over Medicine Hat featured two-goal performances from Blackwater and Salmon, while Kraden Heath had two assists. Carter Harris, Eddie Little Shields, Tanner Wells, and Tony Dennay Devine Delany had singles. Sommerfeldt, Hayes Hill and R.J. Moline added assists. Purcell made 34 saves in net.

In U15 play, Magrath posted a 6-3 win Friday over Lethbridge. Tason Heath scored twice and Riley Schneyder, Beau Beier, Levi Harker and Ryder Harrison added one goal each. Nixon Barnett, Clayton Michel and Taza Rea Powelson added one assist each. Kohlman Blackmore made 30 saves for the win.

Sunday didn’t go as well, as Magrath fell 10-2 to Irvine. Schneyder and Easton Fraser scored the goals, assisted by Beier and Breckynn Bates. Ashton Jensen faced 77 shots on goal.

Magrath’s U18 team is 4-0 on the season after the previous weekend began with a 3-1 victory over Pincher Creek. Cruz Johnson, Gunner Sloan and Logan Jensen scored for Magrath, while Rushton Ripley had one assist. Conner Schneyder made 13 saves in net.

Magrath won 10-6 on Saturday in a high-scoring game against Okotoks, as Ripley and Joseph Noad each had two goals and one assist. Adam Chipman had a goal and an assist, while Luke Rodeback had two assists. Sloan, Gage Nelson, Mason Mehew and Rigin Smith had single goals. Jensen and Ross Ravoy had assists, while Schneyder made 22 stops in net.
