Magrath advances to U18 championship series in CAHL playoffs

Central Alberta Hockey League playoffs are entering the final stretch, and local teams are still in the mix in some divisions.

Raymond’s U11 team dropped a 10-5 decision on Saturday in Nanton, as the home side used three first-period goals to set the tone for a high-scoring affair.

Cooper Rodeback and Houston Hill both tried to keep his team in the game, as each player recorded a goal and two assists. Beau Salmon and Stetson Nelson also each had multi-point games, as both skaters had a goal and an assist.

Brixden Manning had a goal and Klay Koopmans and Clay Nelson both had one assist each.

Remington Jardine and Jordan Shmidt split goaltending duties.

The loss eliminated Raymond from the Tier 2 playoffs.

The U18 Magrath team is off to the Tier 3 championship series against Nanton, as game one is set for March 8.

Magrath earned a first-round bye and then took out Foothills in the league semifinal.

Game one of the semifinal series resulted in a 3-3 tie, in a Friday game played on the road in Blackie.

Cruz Johnson opened the scoring for Magrath and made it 1-0, as Beckham Sugai drew the assist.

Foothills tied the game at one before Ross Ravoy scored an unassisted goal to put Magrath up 2-1. Blake Roe then made it 3-1 before the first period was over, as Ravoy and Kyson were credited with assists on the play.

Magrath was unable to hold the lead, as Foothills scored once in the second and added another in the third to earn the draw.

Conner Schneyder made 27 saves in goal for Magrath.

With the season on the line Saturday in Magrath, Schneyder turned in a 21-save shutout for the home side, as Magrath took a 4-0 win over Foothills to win the series.

Rushton Ripley scored three times to pace the offensive attack, while Know Tame had a goal and an assist.

Makoy Mehew and Clay Christensen added one assist each.

The CAHL championship series now begins on Friday with an 8 p.m. game in Nanton.

Game two is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday in Magrath.

The U9 Magrath Chiefs had playoffs this weekend in Raymond and placed third in the SPHL. Game one saw Magrath defeat Cardston 19-0. Coby Noad got player of the game.

In game two Magrath faced off against Raymond Knights and lost a thriller 6-5 in double overtime. Liam Stanford was player of the game.

In the third-place game Magrath played the Fort Macleod Mavericks and won 7-3, taking home bronze. Raylen Owens was player of the game.

Scoring in the playoffs was Cody Beier with 12 goals and two assists. Liam Stanford had 10 goals and one assist. Cooper Seward had three goals and one assist. Kolten Baldwin had two goals and two assists. Coby Noad had two goals, Davyn Gillam and Nathan Wilde each had one goal, while Charlie Christensen had one assist. Raylen Owen’s had one shutout and was in net for all playoff games.
