During the May 11 Town of Raymond Council meeting, Council gave attention to a myriad of important subjects.
Raymond Minor Hockey Board President Amanda Ravoy spoke first, explaining that an individual who wished to stay private contacted Raymond Minor Hockey wanting to donate funds for a new score clock, something that is desperately needed.
“I believe you can’t get the bulbs anymore for the clock we have,” explained Ravoy. “You can’t see it from the upstairs viewing area.”
Ravoy provided quotes for the cost of a new board, stating that it would be anywhere from $12 to $18,000, and further explained that the individual offering to donate funds also requested naming rights of the rink, desiring to christen it a memorial for Dagan Eakett, who passed away in 2024.
Ravoy was emphatic that the Raymond Minor Hockey Board would like the process of approval started by next hockey season, which falls in October.
“Dagan Eakett was part of Minor Hockey his whole life, and his family’s been part of Minor Hockey,” said Ravoy of why this memorial was so important to develop.
Council ultimately decided to take the request to closed session before moving on.
Administration then brought Bylaw No. 1164-26: 2026 Tax Rate Bylaw to Council, with the recommendation that second and third reading be approved. Administration also highlighted the financial information within, stating that the estimated municipal expenditures and transfers set out in budget for the Town of Raymond for 2026 total $16,369,373, the estimated municipal revenues and transfers from all sources other than taxation is estimated at $10,354,586, and the balance of $6,014,787 is to be raised by taxation. Administration also stated that the requisitions are as follows:

Total Residential/Farmland $1,350,780

Administration also showed the various rates of taxation as shown on the assessment roll of the Town of Raymond.
The bylaw, Administration also explained, also stated that the minimum amount payable for improved properties as property tax for general municipal purposes will be $ 1,400 and the minimum amount payable for vacant properties for general municipal purposes shall be $1,400, the minimum amount payable for units within a Designated Manufactured Home Community and property tax for general municipal purposes shall be $750.
If any taxes remain unpaid at closing time of the Town Office on the 15th day of July, 2026, the bylaw stated, a 12 per cent penalty will be applied on July 16, 2026, while a 1.5 per cent penalty will be imposed on the unpaid balance on the first day of each month thereafter, starting August 1, 2026.
After reviewing the information, Administration stated that they had received no official comments or any questions and, hence, they were looking for second and third reading for Bylaw No. 1164-26: 2026 Tax Rate Bylaw.
Before the reading, Administration also explained that a trifold brochure would be sent along with the property tax notices and those trifolds would outline provincial requisitions and the costs for policing, education, and then the Seniors Foundation portions, and designated industrial to educate the public.
Following a brief discussion for clarifications, Councillor Johnson made a motion that Council approve second reading on Bylaw No. 1164-26: 2026 Tax Rate Bylaw, and the motion was carried. Councillor Johnson also made the motion that Council approve third reading on Bylaw No. 1164-26: 2026 Tax Rate Bylaw, and the motion was carried.
