The FCALA Volleyball Tournament 2026

Following the launch of the summer with a two-day community celebration at the Filipino Heritage Festival, Vic L. Visitacion and the FCALA team continued their activities throughout July, with events taking place on July 11 and 12 and concluding on the 25th. The Filipino Canadian Association of Lethbridge Alberta (FCALA) expressed gratitude for the opportunity to help organize a volleyball tournament at the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization’s (LSCO) Gymnasium, further highlighting the group’s dynamic involvement in community-led events.

The opening day included exhibition games and the beginning of elimination matches. The teams donned their jerseys and displayed their team colours with pride competed against each other, enabling both themselves and their rivals to gauge the level of competition and aspire for improved seeding in their pursuit of a more favourable position. 

As the community observed and cheered, players energized the crowd with thrilling moments.

On July 25, the championships featured a series of competitive matches, culminating with Bisdak team claiming the title from the reigning champions, the Golden Spikers. 

Councillor Rufa Doria had left a unifying speech for the community; “We have this message in the FCALA Volleyball Tournament that sports brings people together. So when we are together, we need to show our respect not only to our teammates, but also others. We are looking forward with all our efforts. We want to share that we try to do better to become a good players but at the same time, we want to do better to become good friends among each other.”

Mayor Blaine Hyggen was also in attendance. He said, “anytime we talk about sports, I’m so grateful to have this opportunity to come because sports we know bring communities together. And a huge shout out to all of the support from the volunteers, families, anyone that put this together. The coaches to the refs to everyone who took part, thank you so much and it’s always a pleasure to see your smiling faces.”
