Weings Sprinkler slo-pitch team sponsored by Judy & Bob Weing of Lethbridge captured first place out of 14 teams that play in the Lethbridge Ladies Slo-Pitch League.

Playoff games were played at Softball Valley’s Peenaquim Park in Lethbridge. The ladies play a double header every Thursday evening and this completed spring slo-pitch down at the valley.

This team is made up of ladies from Magrath and area and is one of the first founding teams of the League. The team is coached by Diane Wocknitz and she has played and coached in the Lethbridge league for over 40 years, some for three generations.

When the league first started they played games at several school ball diamonds until Softball Valley was officially opened in 1995. Wocknitz accredits her success to her team, as they are such an excellent athletic group of ladies, each one displaying very unique and talented skills. They are such a determined team under pressure and in the playoff games they all came together and battled hard.

She attributes the love of the sport herself, as well as the love she has for her teammates, and admires their dedication and tremendous effort they put into it.

“This is what makes the awesome bunch of ball players that captured number one,” said Wocknitz.
