The Raymond Comets turned in another dominating effort at home last week with a 45-9 win over St. Joseph’s from Saskatoon.
The Saskatchewan squad was no match for the southern Alberta powerhouse, as the home side scored early and often and put things out of reach early.
Raymond’s first drive was capped off by a quick Jace Ralph pass to Khyrum Boehme, as the Comets took a 7-0 lead with 7:59 left in the first quarter.
A Cody Harris interception gave Raymond the ball on the 17-yard line but after a quick drive, which featured a failed running play from the one-yard line, the Comets settled for a field goal to boost the advantage to 10-0 with 4:27 left in the opening quarter.
The big blow came with 25.3 seconds left in the first, as Ralph connected with Cache Beazer on a 12-yard pass to make it 17-0.
St. Joseph’s finally got on the board in the second quarter as Raymond conceded a safety to make it 17-2.
Raymond made it 24-2 late in the second quarter, as Finn Davis hauled in an 18-yard TD pass from Ralph, with 4:22 left in the half.
On the Comets next drive, a massive gain on a shovel pass to Thomas Walburger setup Raymond near the St. Joseph’s goal line. From there, Emmett Coppieters pushed his way into the endzone to extend the lead to 31-2, with 2:13 left in the second.
The score stayed that way until the third quarter, when a Ralph scramble put the ball on the Saskatoon one-yard line, before Coppieters capped off the drive with another touchdown plunge. That made it 38-2 with 6:26 to play.
St. Joseph’s got one major to pull to within 38-9 before Beazer took a Ralph pass 65 yards for the final score of the game.
This Friday, Raymond will take on Catholic Central at 7 p.m. in a game set for the University of Lethbridge.
