It has been a 5-0 start for the Stirling Lakers girls basketball team in Deep South Basketball League play.
The team rattled off another win last Wednesday with an 84-43 win over Coaldale’s Kate Andrews.
This contest was over at the half, as the Lakers held a decisive 49-19 lead at the break. Stirling was on cruise control the rest of the way, and ended things off with a 41-point victory.
Savannah McKee led at scorers with 38 in the game, while Sadie Nelson added 22.
It was the third straight 30-point performance for McKee, who now has 157 points in her five league games, good for a 31.4 points per game average.
Stirling was in Lethbridge last night for a game against Immanuel Christian Secondary School (results unavailable at press time).
With the two-week exam break, the Lakers will not be back in league action until February.
Stirling’s junior varsity girls also earned a win last Wednesday, with a 50-43 win over Kate Andrews. Hillary Shockey scored 17 for the victorious side, while Halle Smith added 16. Maeg Young had eight points.
That win put Stirling at the top of the standings with a 2-1 record.
Stirling is not the only local team with a perfect league record, as the Magrath Pandas moved to 4-0 in the Southern Alberta High School Basketball League with a convincing 96-19 win on Saturday over Winston Churchill.
Montana Berezay led the Pandas with 21, as Ellie Wilde (15), Lucy Wilde (12) and Lauren Payne (10) also hit double figures. In fact, all 13 players on Magrath’s roster hit the scoresheet with points in the contest, as the Pandas blew out the Griffins.
Magrath also took the junior varsity game, in a slightly closer contest, as the Pandas cruised to a 74-40 win.
Macie Wocknitz connected for 21 points, as Mandy McMahon had 14 and Carly Blackmore added 11.
The Panders played last night at home against Medicine Hat (score unavailable at press time) and also have a home game set for Friday night at 6 p.m. against the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute Clippers.
Raymond put its 5-0 record on the line last night against the Clippers (score unavailable at press time) and also have a Saturday-afternoon home game set against Taber’s W.R. Myers at 3 p.m.
