Stirling council meeting Oct. 4 minutes

The following are selected briefs from the Oct. 4 regular meeting of Stirling Village Council. 

Items for Discussion:

A new agreement was made between Stirling and Benchmark Assessment Consultants Inc. which will see the Village enter into a brand-new five year agreement with the agency. 

A new property in town at 225 – 4 Avenue was listed for sale as a commercial property. This is subject to the owner removing the structure currently located on the parcel of land, as well as any necessary environmental remediation. Council directed administration to capture the required expense for preparing the lot and completing servicing as it is outlined in the 2024 Capital Plan if no buyer comes forward. 

It was approved by council for the Fortis Franchise Fee to remain at 12 per cent and administration was directed to notify Fortis of the newly maintained rate. 

Council Reports:

Mayor Trevor Lewington attended the Annual Conference of Alberta Municipalities that took place in Edmonton from Sept. 27 to Sept. 29. Also included in this trip was a private meeting with Ric McIver, Alberta’s Minister of Municipal Affairs to talk about Stirling’s concerns about items listed in the Local Government Fiscal Framework formula. 

Coun. Gary Bikman sat in on the Tourism and Economic Development meeting where they discussed the 125 anniversary of Stirling which will include a clean-up of the Village and some beautification, and school apprenticeships within trades programs. 

Coun. Devynn Bohn attended the Annual Conference of Alberta Municipalities alongside Lewington.
