The following are selected briefs from the Nov. 14 regular meeting of Magrath town council.

Correspondence:

Coun. Aaron Zaugg motioned to accept a letter from the Magrath Public Library Board and to subsequently instruct administration to invite the Board to make a presentation to council. The presentation described budget, hours of operation, service levels and the breakdown of the increased request for funding.

A letter from the Oldman Watershed Council and Oldman River Regional Services Commission were also accepted and carried through the council.

Administrator’s Report:

Administration is working on an easement agreement with Cardston County for the purpose of installing utility pipelines which will be installed on each other’s road right-of-way.

They also pledged to continue working with businesses interested in developing on the industrial lots.

Mayor and Councillor’s Reports:

Coun. Ken Baker attended Remembrance Day and mentioned sending ‘thank you’ letters to all those who participated in the event and sent thanks to council members who were also in attendance.

Baker also noted he will be sending letters to the chairs of Town Committees in order to let them know about Hometown Christmas and to see if they will be involved. It is noted the Ag Society will not be doing the wagon rides.

The Golf Board will also be having its Annual General Meeting in the new year and noted they will be making a presentation to council to report on their activities.

Mayor Byrne Cook opened by saying he would like to see local businesses highlighted each month on the town’s website and social media pages. Additionally he wants to encourage local businesses and residents to decorate their properties for Christmas by shouting them out online. Cook hopes that by recognizing those who have made an effort to brighten their neighbourhoods it will encourage more to do the same.
