The Michelsen Farmstead in Stirling will play host to Stirling’s 125th birthday party from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, with the Stirling Community Centre serving as the alternate location for the festivities if inclement weather should occur.
“The event is organized by the Stirling Historical Society and supported by the Village’s Community Events Committee,” said Trevor Lewington, Mayor of Stirling.
Lewington says that the event will include music and storytelling to recognize the date in 1899 when the first settlers arrived by train to what would become the community of Stirling. There will also be cake, ice cream and homemade root beer, Lewington says.
“This formally marks our 125th anniversary date although most of the big celebrations will take place during this summer’s annual Settler Days from July 18 to 20,” said Lewington. “How can you go wrong with free cake and ice cream? I would certainly encourage people to attend and learn more about our history.”
