Stirling 125th Anniversary celebrations

The Village of Stirling will celebrate their 125th anniversary through annual Settler Days events that will take place from July 17 to 20.

“The Annual Settler Days celebration brings friends, neighbours and families together,” said Trevor Lewington, Mayor of Stirling.

Lewington says that events on Wednesday, July 17 will include a Tween Pool Luau from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Stirling Swimming Pool for teens 9 to 13 that will cost $10 per tween and include food, games, and prizes. There will also be a ‘Spouting Imaginations: Blooming Artists Exhibit’ at 6 p.m. at the Stirling Library, Lewington says, that will be a ‘special showcase of children’s creativity.’

Thursday, July 18’s events, Lewington says, includes an Artisan Craft \show at the Michelsen Farmstead from 5 to 7 p.m. that people can register to participate in by calling (403) 756 7339. There will also be a Historical Society Fundraiser Dinner a the Michelsen Farmstead at 6 p.m. and Music on the Veranda from local artists at 7 p.m., Lewington says. From 7:30 to 9 p.m., there will be a Teen Pool Luau at the Swimming Pool from 7:30 to 9 p.m. for teens ages 13 to 17 that will cost $10 per teen and will include food, games, and prizes.

Friday, July 19]s events, Lewington says, will begin at 1 p.m. with Horseshoe Games at the Reunion Centre that will run until 6 p.m., and a Toonie Swim at the Swimming Pool that will run from 1 to 8 p.m. There will also be FCSS Games at the Reunion Centre from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Lewington says, and a Cake Walk drop off at the Reunion Centre at 6 p.m. with judging at 6:30 p.m. and those interested can purchase a ticket for $0.50 or donate a non-perishable food item. On top of that, Lewington says, a fundraiser dinner will be held at the Reunion Centre at 6 p.m., wagon rides will be offered at the corner of 3rd Avenue and 6th Street will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., and a Family Slow Pitch Tournament will be held at 6:30 p.m. and those interested in playing can register at (403) 756-7339.

That evening’s activities, Lewington says, will include an Airbag Demonstration at the Stirling Fire Department at 8 p.m., there will be a Movie in the Park at the North Baseball Diamond at 10 p.m., and there will be movie concession available at that movie event with the snacks on sale to support the Friends of the Library.

On Saturday, July 20, Lewington says, the day will begin at 7 a.m. with the 5 km Walk and Ralk at the Lions Hall and that will run at the same time as the Fireman Pancake Breakfast at Lions Hall from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

The Freedom of the Village March military march event, Lewington says, will take place at the Village Office at 10 a.m. and will be followed by the parade on Main Street at 111 a.m. and the Ridge Utilities Sponsored Lunch at the Reunion Centre at 12 p.m. 12 p.m. Lewington says, is also when the Slow Pitch Tournament will begin at the Baseball Diamond and speeches celebrating the Village of Stirling’s 125th Anniversary will commence at the Reunion Centre.

On the afternoon of the 20th, Lewington says, the band ‘Saints and Sinners’ will perform live at the Reunion Centre beginning at 1 p.m., a climbing wall and bouncy castle will be available at the Reunion Centre from 1 to 8 p.m., there will be a Memorial Car Show from 1 to 6 p.m., there will be pool for kids ages 2 to 16 from 1 to 4 p.m. as well as pool lawn games, there will be face painting at the Reunion Centre from 1 to 5 p.m., and there will be a craft sale behind the pool from 2 to 7 p.m.

From 4 to 5 p.m., Lewington says, there will be ‘Firefighter Rain’ at the Soccer Field, there will be FCSS games from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Reunion Centre, and there will be a fundraiser dinner at the Reunion Centre at 6 p.m. There will also be an all-day ‘What’s Pop’N Concession’ at the Swimming Pool.

At 8:30 p.m., Lewington says, Trevor Panczak will perform and the evening will end at 11 p.m. with fireworks.
