After 3170 ballots were cast in a three-day vote, the Conservative party has their nominee for the Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner constituency.
Glen Motz was selected over Brian Benoit, Gregory Ranger, Joe Schow, Michael Jones and Paul Hinman to represent the Conservative party in the upcoming election.
Motz remains extremely humble at the opportunity to represent this riding.
“I’m excited. I feel a sense of responsibility to carry the Conservative banner for the great people in this riding. I ‘m honoured to do that,” said Motz.
Competition was strong and Motz had nothing but good things to say about the other candidates.
“They are incredible people, fine gentleman and to be selected by the constituency to be their representative is incredibly humbling,” said Motz.
Motz recently retired from a career with the Medicine Hat Police Service after serving the community for 35 years. He spent his last year at the Senior Executive level.
He sees this as another chance to serve his community.
“My role is to represent everyone in this riding from the very northeast corner to the very southwest corner and every point in between,” said Motz. “It means I will continue go to all communities in this riding and meet with people who desire to do so.”
Motz will attend Celebration Days in Raymond this week where people can find him in the parade.
“I’m excited. There are already so many people I have met across this riding and I’m looking forward to meeting thousands more. It starts in Raymond,” said Motz.
With some time to reflect, Motz feels grateful for all the people who have been at his side during this and everybody who supported him throughout the process.
“It takes people who are ready to support you and to stand by you. This is only possible with the great work of the nominee committee and the hundreds of volunteers we have had over the last two and half months,” said Motz.
After months of hard work there is some sense of relief for Motz, but his journey is just beginning.
“Immediately the next morning (after being named the Conservative nominee) I had the privilege of meeting with party officials and the president of the EDA (Economic Development Alliance of Southeast Alberta) to plan on what the campaign will look like,” said Motz.
His goal is to unite the riding and serve the people to the best of his ability.
“I want to ensure people that the interest of those from the entire riding are my priority. I met some great people form across this riding. I look to grow those relationships and I look to build new ones,” said Motz.
Motz was raised on the family farm/ranch north of Hanna, Alberta. He’s been married for almost 38 years and is a proud father and grandfather. He’s lived in Medicine Hat/Cypress County for the past 38 years.
