Milk River Watershed Council Canada is holding their 2024 Science Forum on November 7 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the County of Warner ASB Meeting Room.

“This Science Forum is a way to showcase scientific research/project findings that have been conducted in and around the Milk River watershed,” said Mary Lupwayi, Program Coordinator for Milk River Watershed Council Canada 2024 Science Forum.

The event, Lupwayi says, was created by the Research and Monitoring Team within the Milk River Watershed Council Canada and will provide a stage for researchers and subject matter specialists to share their findings with engaged community members and stakeholders.

Lupwayi says that the five topics being presented at the forum will be Richardson’s Ground Squirrel Density in Relation to Ferruginous Hawk Artificial Nesting Structures; Wild Nights – Understanding Bats and Amphibians in the Milk River Watershed; Little Fish, Big Steward Project – Supporting fish in the Milk River through Stewardship Projects; Water Supply – An Update on the St. Mary, Milk River Diversion Rehabilitation Work; and 3rd Edition Milk River Transboundary State of the watershed report.

The forum, Lupwayi says, started in 2017 and is held on a need-to-know basis, when there are scientific research/project findings that have been conducted.

“The event has been successful over the years, and we plan to continue hosting as long as the public is interested,” said Lupwayi. “The information presented furthers our understanding of management actions related to watershed resources.”

Lupwayi says that those who wish to register for the free forum can email mary@mrwcc.ca.

“We are thankful to the public who attend our events and are proactive about the information that they learn,” said Lupwayi.
