Graduates were dressed in sharp suits and beautiful dresses as friends and families gathered to share their goodbye to high school.
Years of hard work finally paid off for students at Magrath High School as they celebrated their final year of high school last Friday night.
Principal Rob Doig has been with these students during their journey and is thrilled to see them reach this point in their lives.
“It’s always nice to be able to celebrate the hard work that our graduates put in over the 12 to 13 years of education and to recognize some of the hard work and the things they have done,” said Doig.
Doig understands it wasn’t always easy for the students, but knows it was all worth it for them in the end.
“For some it hasn’t been easy , for others it’s come a little easier, but to find different ways to recognize and to celebrate lots of different students is great,” said Doig.
Graduate Kasen Miller was all smiles on Friday and felt the moment was a bit surreal.
“It’s fantastic, it’s a lot better than what I expected. It’s just so much fun,” said Miller.” “It doesn’t feel real yet, I’m sure it will feel real when school comes around next September, but I like the feeling of it. It feels great.”
Miller had great things to say about his graduating class.
“I love them,” he laughed. “I wouldn’t trade my class for anything. They’re a great group of people, I know everybody and I’m friends with everyone.”
For graduate Emma Goodsell, being done gives her a sense of comfort after working so hard for so long.
“I’m feeling relieved that’s for sure. All the tests are done so it’s really over. I don’t have to worry about anything until I decide what do next in life,” said Goodsell.
Graduating is bitter sweet for Goodsell.
“I’m going to miss them. We’ve had good times and bad times and I’ll probably never see a lot of them again. I’m just going to miss it all,” said Goodsell.
Now that it’s officially over Doig has some words of advice for all the graduates.
“Find those things you’re good at, do them well and represent our school and the town of Magrath extremely well,” said Doig. “Make sure you take time to really recognize and thank those people who have helped you out and have done things to help you turn into a better a person.”
The ceremony took place inside the Tom Karren gymnasium, before ending the night inside the auditorium with a dance.
