With summer under way and months of freedom from school, a 12 year old in Magrath has decided to turn her time off into a productive one as she recently became an entrepreneur.

Halle Ripley has started her own business called Ripley’s Recycling. She offers recycling services to everybody in Magrath at monthly rates.

She supplies the bins with a small deposit and goes around town every Friday afternoon to collect the recyclables and takes them to recycling bins.

Being 12 years old means Halle was limited to the type of work she could do over the summer.

She thought this would be a great way to make some extra cash over the break from school.

“I was thinking of what I could do to make money over the summer. I decided that recycling was something everybody needs and it’s something Magrath doesn’t have,” said Ripley.

Recycling is something that is important to Halle and to be able to supply the town with this service makes her feel great.

“There’s a lot of waste and if you can get rid of it properly than it’s good to do that” said Halle.

There was some planning involved with the project to ensure it was properly run and Halle, with the help of her parents, made sure of it.

“We had to figure out what bins to use, what the logo would be, what time (for pickup) and we had to post it around town,” said Halle.

Halle had a little bit of help with the design of the logo from her art teacher Jordan Brame, and is also planning to distribute flyers.

She even contacted the town to make sure there were no problems.

“We talked to the town and they were okay with it,” said Halle.

So far, the support from the community has been good. She currently has a significant amount of people signed up, but is always looking for more.

Her parents are extremely happy of her dedication, hard work and what she has been able to accomplish.

“We’re really proud of her. She’s doing so well and she’s really taking responsibility for it. She took the idea and ran with it. She’s been very positive, we are just so proud of her,” said Halle’s mother Angie.

Ripley Recycling is currently accepting card board and bottles for pickup.

To register, or to find out more information on pricing and pick up times, contact Halle through the Ripley Recycling Facebook page or you can reach her through the phonebook.
