Magrath High School presents “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat” until Friday. Show starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for those aged 12 and under, and $8 for groups.

Pete Simon, the school’s drama, band, and choral teacher said this is the first production for MHS. “I’m excited. It’s going to be awesome. We just barely got this new theatre in the school and let’s get the maiden voyage going,” he said, earlier this week.

“This was one of my first productions when I was in Grade 8 and 9. We did it in Cardston — a long time ago. That was a memorable thing I can make for my kids too,” he added, in regards to giving students at the school an opportunity to perform in a musical of this calibre.

Rehearsals, Simon noted, started about six weeks ago. There are close to 43 student cast members from Grades 7-11. “It’s awesome having all the students come together. They just all love to sing.”

As for the brand new theatre at the school, Simon thinks it’s amazing. “It’s stuff I didn’t have.” As, back in the day, many schools didn’t have a theatre dedicated to live performances. Most schools had a stage in the gym and some schools didn’t even have that.
