The football season is off to a roaring start for the Raymond Comets bantam and high school teams.
Raymond’s high school team is off to an impressive 2-0 start, which all started with a dismantling of an American opponent.
The Comets crushed Idaho’s Marsh Valley back on Aug. 25, in a game played at Madison High School in Rexburg.
Raymond followed that up with a dominating 52-7 win at home last Friday night over Spruce Grove.
Those wins have meant the Comets now hold top spot on the Football Alberta Tier 1 rankings. Harry Ainlay is No. 2, after the Edmonton powerhouse topped Lethbridge Collegiate Institute in its opening game. However, Ainlay was only able to manage a 23-23 tied with Miller Comprehensive Catholic High School.
Ernest Manning holds the No. 3 spot, while All Saints and Salisbury round out the top five.
Raymond has another huge game on tap this weekend, as the Comets head to Missoula, Mont. on Friday to take on Sandpoint, Idaho, in a game set to be played at Grizzly Stadium.
Raymond will not play again until Sept. 22, when the Comets will host LCI for a 7 p.m. game.
The bantam team got off to a great start last Thursday, with a 55-0 win over the Taber Rebels, in the Comets head coaching debut of former Raymond standout Jimmy Ralph.
