In honour of Stirling’s 125th anniversary, Ridge Utilities is offering the grade 12 students of Stirling School the opportunity to be awarded one of two $1,250 scholarships.

“The purpose of this scholarship is to help provide a financial assistance to any student who is pursuing post-secondary education following grade 12,” said Scott Donselaar, Chief Administrative Officer for the Village of Stirling. “Ridge Utilities understands the cost of schooling is a challenge at times and is offering these scholarships to help lessen that financial burden. I believe any opportunity a company like Ridge Utilities has to invest in our youth and their future educational pursuits is an excellent investment. I believe every dollar a student entering post-secondary can obtain from our and other scholarships, helps them to reduce the overall costs associated with their educational pursuit.”

The scholarships, Donselaar says, are one example of Stirling’s community reinvestment strategy to reinvest profits back into the communities where customers live.

“Stirling is the sole shareholder of Ridge Utilities,” said Donselaar. “We are a muncipally controlled corporation. The Village of Stirling was pleased to see this investment. We plan to do the same in Raymond next year for their 125th anniversary.”

Donselaar says that students who are interested in applying for the scholarship can send a brief narrative of less than 500 words to info@ridgeutilities.net before 4 p.m. on Friday, May 31 describing how they meet the eligibility criteria and why they should be selected and also include their full name, mailing address, email address and phone number. The applicants, Donselaar says, must be in good academic standing with Stirling School; be registered for post secondary in 2024 or proof of deferred acceptance if not entering school in the fall.
