A general election is on the horizon, and it’s not so far off that the outline isn’t taking shape in the distance. Earlier this month, Bow River MP Martin Shields had a chance to explain what people can expect if his Conservatives can pull off a victory when that time comes. Whether folks are leaning his way, or if they’re on the fence about which way to go, he made an early pitch to southern Albertans who will be casting a ballot.

“There are some fundamental things that need to be changed that affect people in their lives,” Shields began, saying cost of living and government spending were top of mind. “We believe that you would see that if there’s $1 spent, we need to find where that dollar can be saved from what we’re already doing. It’s what people do in their houses. It’s what people do in their business. If you can afford to expand, where did you get the money? Well, we grew our business. Well, let’s grow our economy. Then we grow the economy. Our GDP per person has gone down. The U.S. is going up.”

The Oyen RCMP is investigating after a bridge near Bindloss caught fire in late September.

Mounties believe vehicles doing burnouts ignited a fire that caused structural damage to a bridge near the northwest quarter-section of 25-22-3 W4 between 7 p.m. on Sat., Sept. 28, and 6 a.m. the next morning.

Anyone with information should contact the Oyen RCMP detachment at 403-664-3505.

Lost hunter found

Brooks RCMP is crediting the Jenner Fire Department with locating a hunter who was reported missing on Oct. 12. The detachment provided no other details of the incident. General hunting safety guides suggest being prepared for changes in weather, hunting with partners and letting others know your plans and potential locations.
